Product Overview – VoBo TC™ Bridge Endpoint

VoBo TC

The VoBo TC™ is a thermocouple bridge endpoint designed for LoRaWAN® networks. It was designed specifically for temperature monitoring using thermocouple sensors. In this article, we’ll look at VoBo TC™’s features and capabilities to help you decide if it’s the right bridge endpoint for your LoRaWAN® network.

What are the VoBo TC™ Main Features?

VoBo TC™ is a battery-powered, industrial-grade, 12-channel, LoRaWAN® bridge endpoint. It connects to your wired thermocouple sensors and converts them to wireless sensors. VoBo TC™ was designed for use anywhere thermocouple sensors are needed. The Vobo TC and thermocouples are a cost-effective way to collect temperature data.

  • 12 Thermocouple input channels, per channel selectable
  • Supports J, K, T, E, N, S, R, and B-type thermocouples
  • Integrated cold joint compensation
  • Reports in °C, °F, or mV
  • Open circuit detection
  • Programmable sensor calibration
  • Wake-up input
  • Recoverable sensor data, events, and configuration changes
  • Battery powered, 3+ years typical life, user-replaceable
  • Designed for industrial use, IP66 / NEMA 4X
  • Class 1, Division 2 hazardous area certified

VoBo TC™ Thermocouple Inputs

VoBo TC™ has 12 thermocouple input channels. They’re selectable by channel, and each thermocouple channel can be independently configured and calibrated. It supports types B, E, J, K, N, S, R, and T, and reports in °F, °C, or mV. The VoBo TC’s 16-bit ADC has a resolution of ±0.001mV. This ensures measurements can be trusted.

Cold Joint Compensation adjusts for the onboard temperature, so it’s accurate every time a measurement is taken. It also includes open circuit detection, wake-up input channel, and uses NIST ITS-90 Table Lookup and Interpolation for mV to degree conversion.

Wireless LoRaWAN® Bridge Endpoint

A VoBo is a LoRaWAN® Bridge Endpoint that converts wired instrumentation into wireless LoRaWAN® instrumentation. A VoBo TC™ is a LoRaWAN® Bridge Endpoint that specifically provides the LoRaWAN® network with thermocouple readings from its 12 input channels.

The VoBo reads data from the sensor and sends it to the LoRaWAN® gateway. This wireless sensor integration enables all common thermocouples to be sent across a LoRaWAN® network, eliminating the need to repurchase thermocouples.

Industrial Grade

The VoBo TC™ is an industrial-grade LoRaWAN® bridge that’s certified for Class 1 Division 2 hazardous areas. This makes it ideal for use in extreme environments. It includes a rugged enclosure and an internal antenna, permitting installation almost anywhere without concern for weather or the elements.

The VoBo TC™ is rated for IP66, protecting it from dust and water. It’s also rated for NEMA 4X with a gasketed door enclosure to protect against corrosion, dust, water, and ice. It was designed to withstand extreme temperatures with an operating temperature of -40°C to 80°C.

Works with Low Power

The VoBo TC™ is battery-powered. The battery lasts for three years or more, and it is user-replaceable. No need for external power, it keeps temperature data flowing during power outages.

Battery life will depend on how many of the 12 thermocouple channels are used and how often the VoBo takes a reading.

Long Range Communication

The VoBo TC’s™ internal antenna provides a range of six miles LOS (Line of Sight) and performs well in congested industrial plants. This allows the LoRaWAN® temperature sensor to connect to a gateway several miles away. This is ideal for long-range wireless monitoring with LoRaWAN® systems.

VoBo TC™ Onboard Storage

The VoBo TC™ contains internal flash memory. This allows it to work in both online and offline modes. It stores around 5000 sensor payloads. Retrieve the data easily in CSV format with the VoBoConfig tool.

VoBo TC™s are Easy to Configure

Like all VoBo’s, the VoBo TC™ can be configured locally through a serial connection, over the air with downlinks, or pre-configured at the time of purchase. This level of convenience makes the VoBo TC™ simple to deploy and use.

VoBo TC™ Use Cases

There are many use cases for the VoBo TC™ and its thermocouple measuring abilities. Use cases include a wide range of temperature and current monitoring, such as:

  • Process temperature monitoring
  • Furnace temperature monitoring
  • Compressor inlet and outlet monitoring
  • Equipment condition monitoring
  • Industrial automation
  • Predictive maintenance
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Steam Trap Temperature monitoring
  • Detecting vessel hotspots
  • Rotating Equipment Condition Monitoring
  • Heat Exchanger Fouling
  • Thermal Profiling
  • Food and Beverage Processing Quality Control
